As one travels down State Route 255 (from Woodsfield, Ohio) and make their way to Laings, Ohio. One cannot miss the Laings Church of Christ building as it sits upon the hill in Laings, Ohio. Some people even know our congregation as “The Church on the Hill.”
What a great illustration of the words of Jesus found in Matthew 5:14-16, which He teaches that Christians are to be light, and be actively directing people to The Lord. He then compares the Christian’s light to a city set upon a hill which cannot be hidden.
Members of the Church of Christ have been striving to be “the light of the world” in Laings, Ohio since December 31, 1911. The congregation began with five families meeting in the Green Township building and in 1937 the group moved to a larger building across the street. Since 1998, the congregation has been meeting in its newest, most spacious facility in its history.
We attempt to follow all of Jesus’ commands as found in the New Testament and be the church He founded (Mat. 16:18). We strive to worship the Lord in spirit and in truth (Jn. 4:24) each first day of the week, by praying, singing a cappella, preaching from God’s Word, giving of our means, and weekly observing the Lord’s Supper (Acts 2:42-47).
We meet every Sunday at 9:45 a.m. for Bible School; we have classes for all ages. Worship begins at 10:30 a.m. We then gather again on Sunday at 6:00 p.m. for evening worship. We again meet for our mid-week Bible Study on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. with classes for children and adults.
The congregation also offers Vacation Bible School for children and adults of all age, Gospel Meeting, Bible Classes each Sunday and Wednesday. Everyone is invited to all of our services.
